Ryshi—half-jinn, half-imp—is the only male who
has ever managed to slip through the minotaur labyrinth and lived to
tell the tale. He wasn’t so lucky when it came to stealing prized
vampire artifacts. Caught and imprisoned, he now has a chance at freedom
if he can rescue the gargoyle Levet from that same labyrinth. But he’ll
have a minder on his mission in the petite, enticing form of Sofie, the
vampire he’s been fantasizing about for a very long time . . .
Sofie
is shunned and feared for her ability to control others’ minds. She
didn’t ask for that gift, and she certainly doesn’t want to use those
powers to control this gorgeous, sensual demon. Too bad a request from
the Anasso isn’t up for debate. To rescue the gargoyle, she and Ryshi
have to work closely together, and Sofie is compelled to lower her
defenses around him in every way—though she expects him to disappear the
moment their task is complete. But now that Ryshi has glimpsed what his
future could be with Sofie, he’s ready to fight for her trust, even
against the darkness within.
My rating 4/5 stars
Usually when a series has been going as long as this one has, you worry
that maybe, just maybe, that it's going to be the same story just told a
different way. I am happy to say-this story isn't it! I still love this
series just as much today as I did when I first started reading it!
In
this one, we get Sophie and Ryshi's story. Sophie is a vampire that
keeps to herself, but when the Anasso gives you a mission, you don't say
no. And he needs her to keep Ryshi on task and doing what needs to be
done. Ryshi has been a prisoner of the Anasso for a while, but when he
is tasked with a mission to find a certain gargoyle (and take a vampire
that he is curious about with him)-he knows that it may be his chance
for freedom. Or information. All while getting out alive and rescuing
Levet at the same time.
I really enjoyed this story. There was
the laughter and action I always expect when it comes to this author,
along with a great story that kept me involved and wanting to know more.
I loved the characters of Sophie and Ryshi and their own backstory and
how they come to be in their current lives. I loved the introduction of
the Minotaur's and their world, along with how it all came about. The
only thing that I wish, and it could be an upcoming book, is that there
is a conclusion or love story for Levet's Aunt! That relationship
between her and a certain someone has me completely intrigued! All in
all, another great read in this series!!
